Japan Display Inc. Offers the Innovation Vehicle 2014 Cutting-Edge Displays

October 28, 2014 (Tokyo, Japan) - Japan Display Inc. (President and CEO: Shuichi Otsuka; JDI) announced today that it has developed another Innovation Vehicle*1 following the development of its 2012 and 2013 editions.

The Innovation Vehicle 2014 reflects the evolution of the already commercialized "WhiteMagic", "Pixel Eyes" and "IPS-NEO" to provide enhanced visibility and user-friendliness. JDI will offer it for both mobile device and automotive applications.

An 8.0-inch ultra-high definition display that paves the way for 4K2K devices for single person use
JDI has developed a 4K2K-ready display so small it can easily be held in one hand. 4K2K is a next-generation high-definition standard for offering clear images. It also supports features required by mobile applications - namely, low power consumption, a light and thin body and a slim border, meaning that most of the front face is devoted to the screen. In addition, it has a finger touch function upgraded to enable smooth entry with a one-millimeter fine stylus or brush. These features have been achieved thanks to JDI’s original low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) technology, "IPS-NEO" that has widened the color reproduction range to 95% of NTSC, "WhiteMagic" that has been advanced through the local dimming backlight*2, and "Pixel Eyes" which has high resolution capabilities.

A display for next-generation automobile cockpits
JDI offers a display for next-generation automobile cockpits that increases flexibility for both interior design and displayed content to assist drivers by integrating the instrument cluster and the head-up display. For the instrument cluster, the curved "IPS-NEO" provides displays that are easily viewable to drivers. The upgraded "WhiteMagic" achieves both a large high-definition screen and low-power consumption. In a safe head-up display that can be viewed without turning the eyes, a larger display area with increased resolution leads to the extension of data display.

We will exhibit these displays in JDI booth on October 29 to 31, 2014, during Display Innovation 2014 in PACIFICO Yokohama, Japan. Other new development like ultra-low power consumption reflective-type LCD modules and sheet OLED displays*3 will be presented, too.
