Developed Micro LED Display
Japan Display Inc. (JDI) today announced that it has developed a prototype micro LED display, which is a powerful candidate for the next generation displays, which will be exhibited, as a reference, at the 29th LCD, organic EL and sensor technology "FINTECH JAPAN 2019" exhibition, held in Makuhari Messe between December 4th (Wed.) and the 6th (Fri.).
This prototype realizes a micro LED display with high brightness and wide viewing angles, applying the LTPS backplane technology developed by JDI. The micro LED display no longer requires the backlight, polarizer and color filter required in LCD, where high brightness and wide viewing angles are the characteristics of the next generation displays.
The reference exhibition micro LED display uses micro LED chips from glo.
glo is a startup established in the heart of Silicon Valley USA in 2010 with full in-house development capability building micro LED panels on both LTPS and Si backplanes.
Glo hold hundreds of patents on two key areas of technology: The all GaN based RGB micro LED (including the world’s only red GaN micro LED), and high speed direct wafer transfer technology.
