Interactive Flower Installation at EXPO 2025 Osaka

ZINNSIA was featured in an interactive flower installation at EXPO 2025 Osaka, allowing visitors to trigger multilingual greetings by touching real flowers.

The installation transformed real flowers into interactive sensors using ZINNSIA's high-sensitivity capacitive sensing technology. By detecting capacitance changes through the moisture contained in plants, the system could recognize touch and trigger audio responses. Visitors were able to interact naturally with the flowers and hear greetings in various languages, creating an engaging and memorable experience. The project demonstrated how everyday objects and natural materials can become intuitive user interfaces.

FAQ

Q. What kind of sensor is ZINNSIA?

A. ZINNSIA is a capacitive touch sensor that operates on the same principle as a smartphone touch panel. Compared with conventional capacitive sensors, it is more sensitive and can detect touch even through thick materials.

Q. Can ZINNSIA operate while wearing gloves or when moisture is present on the surface?

A. Yes, it can operate even while wearing gloves. Depending on the conditions, touch detection is also possible when water droplets are present or in running-water environments.

Q. Can ZINNSIA be installed on uneven materials or complex shapes such as plush toys and figurines?

A. Yes, it can be installed. In addition to standard sensors, we can also support custom designs for complex shapes such as plush toys and figurines. Please contact us for more details.

Q. Does ZINNSIA operate on conductive materials such as metal? What happens if conductive materials are nearby?

A. If a sensor sheet is placed beneath a conductive material such as metal, the entire conductor may be recognized as a single touch area, which may prevent the intended operation from being achieved. If conductive materials are nearby, feasibility depends on the structure and placement conditions. Please contact us for more details.

Q. Is gesture detection and simultaneous multi-point touch supported?

A. Yes, it is possible. In addition to tap, long tap, double tap, and swipe, actions such as knocking, poking, and stroking can also be determined based on sensor output. Gesture recognition processing is typically implemented in the customer host-side application. Simultaneous multi-touch detection is also possible by ensuring sufficient spacing between detection positions.

Q. Are SDKs or applications available?

A. Evaluation samples include a monitoring application. Sample connection code for C#, Python, and embedded development is also available.

Q. What data can ZINNSIA provide?

A. You can obtain signal values showing the strength of each channel as well as the coordinates (X, Y, Z) when a finger is detected.

Q. What connection interfaces do the evaluation samples support, and what devices are compatible?

A. ZINNSIA FULL can be used with terminals that support CDC/HID standard serial communication. ZINNSIA MINI can be used with USB (UART conversion) or with I2C/SPI compatible microcontrollers.

Q. Can sensor electrodes be customized beyond the samples?

A. Yes, custom sensor design is possible according to your product specifications and installation conditions. Please contact us for more details.

Q. Do you provide design and production services for ZINNSIA-based exhibits or event installations?

A. Yes, within the scope of our capabilities, we also accept inquiries for production projects that incorporate ZINNSIA. Please contact us for more details.
