October 18, 2013 (Tokyo, Japan) Japan Display Inc. (JDI), a global leader in mobile display technologies, has developed new display prototypes -- named "Innovation Vehicles 2013" -- which build upon the displays and technologies demonstrated last year. The Innovation Vehicles serve to bridge our customers' product concept and product development activities.
Last year's Innovation Vehicle for smartphone applications featuring high resolution with pixel density over 400ppi, low power consumption, and thin module structure has been commercialized into mass production this year as a "WhiteMagic" 5.0-inch Full-HD (1,080 x 1,920 pixels) TFT LCD module, and a "Pixel Eyes" 5.0-inch Full-HD TFT LCD module.
This year's "Innovation Vehicles 2013" focuses on the evolution of the predominant features for tablet and automotive markets.
7.0-inch Wide-QXGA (1,600 x 2,560 pixels) for tablet applications
The high resolution (432ppi) of this display for tablet applications is more commonly found in smartphone applications. Its power consumption is almost 60% less than conventional Red/Green/Blue (RGB) LCD panels* (the new "WhiteMagic" display), with a narrow border of 1.0mm and a thin module structure of only 1.17mm thickness (dimensions equivalent to specifications for a 5.0-inch Full-HD module for smartphone use*). The new "Pixel Eyes" display also includes integrated touch function and smooth pen input 1.0mm in diameter.
Reflective 7.0-inch Wide-UXGA (1,200 x 1,920 pixels) with full-color moving images
The novel optical design optimally scatters reflected light to enable a white display that is comfortable to read, like paper. Full-color (26K) moving images can be displayed with ultra-low power consumption and high resolution of 321ppi.
High picture quality, wide color gamut, curved surface displays for styling interior design of automotive
IPS-NEO is adopted for true-black and beautiful color appearance at any viewing angle. A curved surface is possible for styling design freedom. A highly sensitive integrated touch function “Pixel Eyes” enables touch operation while wearing gloves. (Curved Touch Display 12.0-inch 2,560 x 1,440 pixels)
We will exhibit these displays in Japan Display Inc. booth on October 23 to 25, 2013, during FPD International 2013 in Pacifico Yokohama, Japan.
