TOKYO, October 23, 2013 - Japan Display Inc. ("JDI") announced today that it will establish a new subsidiary in Taiwan. The details are described below.

1. Background and purpose of the new Taiwan subsidiary

In the small- and medium-sized display industry, JDI has observed a rapidly growing market in China, and given this trend, JDI believes that it is important to increase its presence in this market. To this end, JDI has decided to offer a position to Mr. Ting-Chen "Jeff" Hsu, the former Vice President of Innolux Corporation, and establish a new subsidiary in Taiwan, the home ground of Mr. Hsu, in order to further our expansion efforts in the Chinese market. Mr. Hsu is an expert with extensive knowledge and experience in this market, and we are excited to fully leverage his management expertise. JDI believes that this is a landmark milestone that represents further strengthening of the relationship between Japan and Taiwan in the small- and medium-sized display industry.

The new company aims to expand our scope of business by offering semi-customized, middle-range displays, which are currently experiencing rapid growth in demand in China, in addition to the high-end displays that have been our main product category up to this time. In developing this product strategy, the new company will take full advantage of the JDI's advanced LTPS and in-cell touch panel technologies.

Going forward, the new company led by Mr. Hsu will be run mainly by local management from Taiwan and China. JDI believes that this structure will contribute to creating a business that is both agile and flexible qualities that we believe are essential for furthering our penetration efforts in the Chinese market. JDI also expects that the new company will contribute to a further strengthening of our relationships with existing customers as well as to an acceleration of the development of new market segments in China.

JDI believes that the foregoing activities by the new company will enable us to further expand the LTPS market, where JDI holds a leading position, and expand our business portfolio through which we hope to achieve further growth and stability of our business and to be the world's No.1 display manufacturer.

The new company is going to start its business by end of 2013.
