- Accelerating the Expansion of for HD720 Format -

April 16, 2014 (Tokyo, Japan): Japan Display Inc. (President and CEO: Shuichi Otsuka; JDI), a leading global supplier of small- and medium-sized displays, has been conducting test runs of "Pixel Eyes", JDI's proprietary in-cell integrated touch-functionality LCD modules, along with major manufacturers of application processors in its efforts to ensure that the product is used in even more smartphones. JDI announced today that it has completed a test run of "Pixel Eyes" in HD720 format (720 x 1280 pixels), which it had been developing with MediaTek Inc., an influential application processor manufacturer headquartered in Taiwan. This has made it possible to commercialize "Pixel Eyes" in HD720 format in a reference design by MediaTek Inc.

"Pixel Eyes" has JDI's proprietary touch functionality. Unlike conventional touch panels that are pasted on displays as external components, "Pixel Eyes" integrates the function into the interior of the display. This enables smartphones to have slim dimensions and be downsized, have improved visibility with reduced optical reflection, and be highly touch sensitive. The test run having been completed, "Pixel Eyes" is now able to be adopted easily by many smartphone manufacturers, and is expected to be utilized further in the growing market of China and other emerging countries. JDI will offer the benefits of "Pixel Eyes" to a wide range of customers along with Taiwan Display Inc.*, a group company supporting the Chinese market.

"Pixel Eyes" is a trademark of Japan Display Inc.
