News Release: The former Toshiba Mobile Display

October 19, 2004

Viewing-Angle Controllable LCD Panel Developed by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co, Ltd.

Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., Ltd. (TMD) has developed a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel that incorporates viewing-angle control technology to give the user control of the display's viewing angle between normal and limited viewing angles.

The newly developed LCD panel provides the user with a discretionary selection between normal and limited viewing-angle modes. In the limited viewing-angle mode, images on the display screen cannot be identified from angles exceeding 45 degrees in the vertical and horizontal directions. In other words, anyone who attempts to look at the display from any side will be unable to view clear images.

In response to the growing interest in protecting personal information in recent years, this new development will find application in mobile devices, ATMs and other equipment designed to ensure personal privacy protection.

The display will be exhibited at FPD International 2004 to be held at Pacific Convention Plaza (PACIFICO) Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan from October 20, 2004.
