News Release: The former Toshiba Mobile Display

October 12, 2006

Successfully Developed the World's Thinnest-Profile LCD Module for Mobile Phone Applications; Only 0.99mm Thick.

Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co., Ltd. (TMD) has developed a low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) thin film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) which is only 0.99mm thick, currently the world's thinnest LCD module for mobile phone applications.

The unprecedented thinness of 0.99mm has been achieved by combining TMD's strategic LTPS core technology, with a newly developed and optimized glass substrate and ultra-thin backlight.

The LCD panel is notable for its thinness as well as its high luminance (300cd/m2) and high resolution QVGA (240x320 pixels) format. With these features it may suit a variety of applications, including motion picture players, TV receivers, and mobile terminals including mobile phones.

Samples will be available in April 2007.

TMD is exhibiting this LCD panel at the Toshiba booth (Electronic Components, Devices, & Industrial Equipment Stage, Exhibition Hall 8, Booth 8C42) at CEATEC JAPAN 2006 held at Makuhari Messe, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, from October 3 to 7, 2006.
